Book-Of-Mormon-IconSm

Scripture

Mark 16:17-18

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Hymn

Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy | Hymn #335
1. Brightly beams our Father’s mercy
From his lighthouse evermore,
But to us he gives the keeping
Of the lights along the shore.

Let the lower lights be burning;
Send a gleam across the wave.
Some poor fainting, struggling seaman
You may rescue, you may save.

2. Dark the night of sin has settled;
Loud the angry billows roar.
Eager eyes are watching, longing,
For the lights along the shore.

Let the lower lights be burning;
Send a gleam across the wave.
Some poor fainting, struggling seaman
You may rescue, you may save.

3. Trim your feeble lamp, my brother;
Some poor sailor, tempest-tossed,
Trying now to make the harbor,
In the darkness may be lost.

Let the lower lights be burning;
Send a gleam across the wave.
Some poor fainting, struggling seaman
You may rescue, you may save.

Lesson

FOR CHILDREN

Begin by holding up the following picture.

Ask: What do you know about priesthood blessings?

Read aloud: The priesthood is the power and authority of God. On earth, God has given us the special privilege and responsibility to use the priesthood to serve and bless others. Specifically, boys and men have been asked to use the priesthood to perform certain priesthood ordinances. A priesthood blessing is one such act.

Ask: What do we get priesthood blessings for?

Read aloud: A priesthood blessing is given when someone is sick or in need of help. Priesthood blessings can provide healing, inspiration, and comfort. When the blessing is for someone who is sick, the priesthood holder uses consecrated oil.

Priesthood blessings are one way God connects with us and provides us with the things we need.

When a priesthood blessing is given, a priesthood holder will put his hands on your head and speak the words God has asked us to use when giving blessings. By inspiration, he will then give you a blessing.

Share an experience when a priesthood blessing has impacted your life. Finish the lesson by bearing your testimony.

FOR TEENS & ADULTS

Begin the lesson by watching the following video. Ask everyone to think about what this video teaches us about priesthood blessings.

Ask: What do we learn about priesthood blessings from this video?

Read aloud: A priesthood blessing is given by a Melchizedek priesthood holder to help those who are sick or afflicted. Blessings provide healing, inspiration, and comfort. Priesthood blessings have been used throughout the dispensations help God’s children access his love and power.

Share an experience when a priesthood blessing has impacted your life.

Ask: When has a priesthood blessing brought you the help you needed?

Read aloud: It isn’t always easy to ask for help. It can be hard to ask for a priesthood blessing, but it shouldn’t be. God wants us to utilize his priesthood so he can connect with us in times of trouble.

Ask: What can hold us back from asking for a priesthood blessing and how can we overcome it?

Finish the lesson by bearing your testimony on the power of priesthood blessings.

FOR SINGLE STUDY

Recall times in your life when you have gotten a priesthood blessing. Remember how you felt and how it impacted your life. Write down impressions you may have received. Read and review this talk on priesthood blessings from Elder Dallin H. Oaks.
